11 Proven Insurance Agent Marketing Tips
Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 / Category: Insurance Marketing Articles
Now that I have gone over the marketing channels and mediums you should use. Here are some timeless and proven marketing tips that work for successful agents.
- Be friendly with other insurance agents - This may sound strange, but its incredibly common for agents to share, swap, or sell customer contacts with each other. The more agents you befriend, the better chance you have of getting insurance referrals.
- Renewal Reminders - This one is critical! One of the fastest ways to loose customers is to forget to remind them to renew, and more importantly, to renew with your agency. Otherwise, don’t be surprised if you lose them to your competition.
- Use Calls to Action - In your marketing efforts, always make sure to use calls to action in your material. It seems very over done, but phrases like Call Now and Reply Today actually work.
- Make Yourself Unique - Do you speak multiple languages? Do you carry a product line that has been in the news lately? Anything that makes you stand out from your competition, include it in your materials.
- Put Your Picture on Your Marketing Materials - This one is very important. When a customer has a $5 difference between 3 insurance carriers, they will choose the agent they feel most comfortable with. Your picture ads a personal touch that text can never get across.
- Send Personal Letters - The benefit of the insurance customer, is they must provide you with a lot of highly valuable information about their lives. You typically will have their birthday and possibly the birthday of their family members. You will know if they got a new car, house, boat, apartment, etc… You will also typically know if they have recently had a baby. Use this information to your benefit by sending them personalized congratulations letters/postcards.
- Keep Your Customers Happy - This sounds ridiculous to say, but happy customers will lead to your long term success. Probably not for the reason you are thinking though. The reason is that the market is so incredibly competitive, that you can’t afford to lose clients. Make sure you let them know how much you appreciate their business and any referrals they send you. Retention is the life blood of a long lasting insurance agency.
- Use Response Codes - If you send out postcards, always make sure you have a response code on them. If you send out emails, put a response code in them as well. Tracking your results is not as difficult as it may sound, and it can end up saving you a fortune by avoiding bad advertising channels and vice-versa as well.
- Include Yourself in Your Marketing Campaigns - It may seem odd, but when you receive your own marketing materials it can give you a very good idea of how effective they would be on a potential customer or existing client. This also will give you an idea of the timeliness of your marketing channel as well. Also, if they don’t mind, include your friends and family as well.
- Create a Marketing Budget - This is one of those steps too many small businesses skip. You need to layout how much you will allocate to marketing each month and stick to your budget. Just like a personal budget, the end result will be lower expenses and higher revenues as long as you are investing your money into solid targeted marketing.
- Create a Marketing Calendar - Plan out when you will be spending your marketing budget. Take a spare calendar and mark down when you will be launching your different marketing campaigns and how much each will cost.
